COHERE - Collaboration of Observational HIV Epidemiological
Research in Europe
COHERE is a collaborative group of 33 adult,
paediatric, and mother/child HIV cohorts across Europe. The
collaboration allows comparisons across age categories and provides
a mechanism to rapidly compile datasets to address novel research
questions that cannot be studied adequately in individual
cohorts.
The COHERE dataset currently contains data
from more than 245,000 adults, 6,000 children, and 29,000 mothers.
The cohorts participating in COHERE are included because of their
proven ability to collect good quality data on patients at the
participating clinical sites and raise novel scientific
questions.
Research questions are investigated where
sufficient data elements are found in all contributing cohorts and
which demand large sample sizes, and long-term follow-up. Such
questions include the incidence and determinants of emerging and/or
rare events or their prognosis.
The main aims of the COHERE network are to
conduct epidemiological research on the prognosis and outcome of
HIV-infected people from across Europe including pregnant mothers,
children, and adults. The research focus and guiding principle is
on novel scientific questions requiring sample sizes of patients
which are not available at the level of the contributing
cohorts.
